2022 Whole Hog BBQ Series Application

The Forest City Owls will be hosting a NC Pork Council sanctioned BBQ cook-off on June 18th, 2022. These sanctioned events follow very specific rules and guidelines. There will be 10 to 12 teams competing. Each team consists of a Chief Cook with up to three assistants. These BBQ teams come from all over North & South Carolina, Tennessee & Virginia. There will be 3 to 4 NC Pork Council certified judges. The cook teams and judges create a positive economic impact for the community. Each team will be provided a dressed, whole hog weighing between 110 to 125 pounds. They will be judged in 6 categories, from appearance to completeness. Based on final tally of the scores, the Forest City Owls will award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes. These top finishers are then eligible to compete in the Championship cook-off. There were 20 local competitions in 2021 that allowed 24 teams to travel to Raleigh for the State Championship. These teams competed for $3,500 in cash prizes, trophies, and the title and championship ring in the Culinary Judging category. There were 4 additional categories in which additional cash awards of $4,100 and trophies were awarded.
